Young people learn how to volunteer, recruit volunteers and work/run a youth project. They are trained to produce a newsletter and youth magazine (The Youth of Today). With this, our children and young people (CYP) are not just only service users, but also service providers.  Some may join the group as a service user but they are encouraged to become a service provider as time goes on, They are involved in service delivery through our volunteering scheme and or job shadowing. This has enabled them to make a positive contribution in accordance with Every Child Matters (ECM4).
Our Children and Youth Support project (including Homework Club, Saturday School) enables us to address problematic areas, leading to proactive and preventative mentoring to enable children to grow into adorable adults in terms of education, social and economic well-being, in fulfillment of ECM3.

What we do at The Peacemakers raises education achievements substantially in any area where we have operated.  This is achieved through regular workshops, talks, after-school clubs, training in mediation and conflict resolution, anger management, and Saturday school which encourages an all-round education, including citizenship, dancing, drama, carnival participation.  All of these enable CYP to use their initiatives and satisfy ECM5 (Enjoying and Achieving). (This can only be possible when CYP have received a sound education to develop them emotionally, mentally and physically). This links with ECM1, as they become healthy and remain healthy and fit through weekly dancing and dramatic activities which require a sound mind and body.

Our project has led to a reduction in school exclusion, dropping-out, and social exclusion in any area where we have operated by 15% through Home-School Mediation (including anger management) and Mentoring which discourages bullying and anti-school cultures. It has helped CYP to stay safe in line with ECM2. As commented by one of the young people: ‘We are out of trouble when we are with The Peacemakers'.

Our target is to get as many young people as possible into training/employment through mentoring and job shadowing which will encourage them to be able to stand and survive independently.  We are training them that even if there is no job, they should be able to create one for themselves.  This satisfies ECM3: Have social and economic well-being.

With our new approach to the CYP programme, i.e. working together with CYP to improve life, we would know more about the needs of CYP and challenges facing them and what should be done to reduce offending, underachievement, violence and other anti-social  behaviour.
